Digital Transformation: Business Users to Gain Access to Analytics with Self-Service Tools
Vendors are creating Business Intelligence tools that will enable business users to access the capabilities of analytics onĀ a casual, self-service approach. Gartner forecasts that by the end of next year that the output from self-service tools will exceed the output for professional data scientists.
Carlie Idoine, research director at Gartner, said that “the trend of digitalization is driving demand for analytics across all areas of modern business and government. Rapid advancements in artificial intelligence, Internet of Things and SaaS (cloud) analytics and BI platforms are making it easier and more cost-effective than ever before for nonspecialists to perform effective analysis and better inform their decision making.”
Gartner recommends businesses that want to use self-service BI portals to follow this advice:
- Self-service initiatives should be aligned with organizational goals to ensure that outcomes are meaningful
- Self-service processes need to be designed and developed with input from business users
- Data governance is important, but should be flexible and not overwhelm users
- Self-service programs needs to have on-boarding processes to enable business users to be most effective
