IT failure is not at all rare. A study by Mulesoft found that IT departments frequently fail to deliver. Two-thirds of IT departments said that they didn’t deliver on all of the project for the year that they had planned.
Ross Mason, founder of MuleSoft, said that “today, CIOs and IT decision makers are under a huge amount of pressure to meet business expectations, but it’s clear that they are struggling to keep up. Integration challenges are creating an IT delivery gap, and organizations can no longer afford to let it drain time, resources and budget.”
Point-to-point integration in particular is a headache for many organizations. The Mulesoft survey found that 80 percent of IT decision makers think that “point-to-point integration must die in the next five years if organizations are to reduce costs, deliver on business needs faster, remain competitive, deliver innovation faster, and extract more value from data.”
Ross Mason said that “with major disruptions happening in multiple industries, no company is too big to have the rug pulled from under it. It is no longer about the big eating the small; it is now about the fast eating the slow.”
