Digital Transformation: Is it Over Already? Were you Left Behind?

By Dick Weisinger

About four years ago people started talking about “Digital Transformation”. The term means at the most basic level a transformation of business data and processes from paper to automation and digital foundation. The transformation and creation of a solid digital foundation means that rather than just speeding up or enhancing existing processes, new technologies will usher in greater innovation and creativity.

Now take a deep breath. According to Accenture, Digital Transformation is over already. Did you miss out? Accenture says that most large companies have already moved into a phase that is post-digital transformation. Just being digital is no longer considered a differentiator.

Companies are now working to bring customers greater control over their data and their privacy. Further, customers will interact with the products and services of businesses and brands in a new way.

Accenture says that in the post-digital world, in order to survive, businesses need to “deliver personalized realities and experiences for customers, employees and business partners.”

Michael Biltz, managing director of Accenture’, said that “this next generation [of innovation] is not going to be led by just technology companies. It’s going to be led by all of these companies that have transformed themselves into digital businesses.”
