Robotics: Adoption Accelerates as Business Reduce Costs and Improve Efficiency

By Dick Weisinger

As businesses seek to save money and become more productive they’re increasingly turning to robots. AI and ML is being applied to robots, making robots smarter and more capable.

Robots are being used in manufacturing, automotives, electronics, healthcare, and retail. In particular, retail warehouse and fulfillment centers are deploying robots.

Businesses will globally spend $115 billion in 2019 on robots and drones, a number that is growing 20 percent annually, according to IDC.

John Santagate, research director at IDC, said that “this growth is due to continued innovation in ease of use as well as the drive for flexible automation across industries. We expect to see growth driven by increased adoption of autonomous mobile robots and collaborative robots being deployed as a means to deliver improvements in capacity, productivity, and efficiency.”

The study involved 4 major activities in estimating the current size of the collaborative robot market. Exhaustive secondary research has been done to collect information on the market, the peer market, and the parent market. To validate these findings, assumptions, and sizing with industry experts across the value chain through primary research has been the next step.
