Search and Insight Engines: Enterprise Search Assistants for Navigating Business Content

By Dick Weisinger

Next-generation enterprise search engines are being called ‘insight engines’ by Gartner.  Insight engines provide “more-natural access to information for knowledge workers and other constituents in ways that enterprise search has not.”

What makes Insight Engines better than the way enterprise search has worked in the past?  Insight Engines is search assisted with new technologies like natural language processing (NLP) and artificial intelligence (AI).

Being able to interact with software using human speech without needing to know rules and syntax for how to form queries makes Insight Engines more approachable and more usable by a broader set of people than previous generations of search.  Insight Engines belong to the same family of digital tools and assistants like Alexa, Siri and Google Home.

Louis Tetu, CEO at Coveo, said that “innovative companies are already seeing the value of insight engines, through automatically suggesting and recommending the most relevant information to anyone that interacts their business. By harnessing the data of every customer, partner or employee’s digital journey, these companies are able to recommend content that has already proven to improve business results and outcomes, at scale, one-to-one, in context.”
