For more than 180 years, Baltimore Gas and Electric has been meeting the energy needs of more than one million business and residential electric customers and more than 600,000 gas customers in an economically diverse, 2,300 square-mile area.
Formtek began working with BGE in order to assist with the implementation of an Engineering Document Management System (EDMS). The resulting integrated EDMS facilitates storage, retrieval, modification, version control, and distribution of engineering information throughout the company. EDMS supports collaborative review and approval processes for substation and transmission system drawings, and provides access to related information such as technical specifications and vendor product information, to facilitate the decision making process.
Duracell (a Procter and Gamble Company) has been powering people around the world for more than 40 years. As the world’s leading manufacturer of high-performance alkaline batteries, Duracell also innovates in lighting, renewable power and wireless charging technologies to help consumers live life without limits.
Duracell’s Electronic Document Management System (EDMS) manages documentation associated with product engineering, equipment, tooling, facilities, service requests, and policies & procedures. Duracell’s EDMS also manages quality assurance documentation including test data, and tracks and reports on compliance with quality training requirements. The system manages over 100,000 documents and supports 900 users across multiple continents in product engineering, quality, testing and manufacturing.
Since 1960, Grenada Electricity Services Ltd. (Grenlec) has been providing integrated services of generation, transmission and distribution to the state of Grenada, comprised of the islands of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique.
Formtek was selected to provide a solution to enhance the experience for Grenlec customers when they request a service or change an existing service by automating the process of capturing, storing and managing customer related documents and their associated metadata. The solution uses Ephesoft for capture, seamlessly transferring the documents and metadata to an Alfresco repository via CMIS, where a workflow approval process is initiated to review and approve the customer application. Custom rules then standardize the document name and file it for easy reference.
Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company (LMAC) is known for building the finest military aircraft in the world. This recognition was earned through its commitment to developing high-performance aircraft and continuously seeking innovative and low-cost design and manufacturing strategies.
Generating, storing, managing, releasing and distributing complex information for a fighter jet or transport aircraft program represents one of the largest information management challenges in the aerospace and defense industry. A change on one part of an aircraft could affect the entire aircraft’s design, requiring multiple organizations to coordinate and work closely with each other during design and manufacturing. To meet these challenges, LMAC partnered with Formtek to implement engineering data management solutions that provide over 10,000 geographically dispersed enterprise users with the ability to easily store, access, collaborate, distribute and manage all types of information in a secure electronic repository. In addition, Formtek provided a structured workflow for electronically processing engineering change requests.
Since 1947, Steel Warehouse has met the needs of major manufacturers processing steel coils and plates with close tolerances. Steel Warehouse responds effectively to customers’ programmed and spot buy requirements with a depth and breadth of inventory, averaging over 100,000 tons on a daily basis.
Formtek was selected to provide a solution to improve the process for managing documents associated with Steel Warehouse’s inventory from purchase order through order acknowledgement and certifications from client mills. The solution uses Ephesoft to capture order acknowledgements and mill certifications, seamlessly transferring the documents and metadata to an Alfresco repository via CMIS. Custom rules standardize the document name and a custom content model allows easy retrieval of all document types.
The Space Physics Research Laboratory (SPRL) is an aerospace design, manufacturing, integration, test and operations organization, located within the University of Michigan’s College of Engineering.
SPRL contracted with Formtek to implement a system to support its engineering data management processes, facilitate sharing data with NASA centers and aerospace corporations with which SPRL collaborates, and manage documents and metadata associated with its projects. Formtek provided an Alfresco software subscription as well as services to implement a custom content model, automatic document numbering and naming, and SPRL-unique workflow processes.
Volvo AB is a major industrial manufacturer of trucks, engines, buses and construction equipment. Volvo maintains an Information Technology group that supplies IT solutions and infrastructure in support of all phases of the product life cycle process. The Volvo IT group has developed a reputation for streamlining data management processes so organizational units can focus on their core business activity.
Volvo IT contracted with Formtek to provide an Enterprise Content Management (ECM) solution that would facilitate global coordination and communication, providing authorized access to information anytime and anywhere. With Formtek’s assistance, the initial implementation has continually expanded through the years, and today there are over 40 ECM applications in operation that leverage the initial repository functionality provided by Formtek. These applications are designed to support all aspects of the product life cycle, from managing the engineering data that is authored and edited during early stage design to the distribution of marketing publications.
