Burton has put together a great report <\/a>called Collaboration and Content Strategies.
\nIt’s an interesting look at how enterprises are coming to grips with the Social Networking phenomena.\u00a0 Most companies feel that they are behind the curve in this area and are missing out, but they also have a hard time coming up with the concrete business benefits that they will be able to derive from using it, and adoption is being slowed because of that.<\/p>\n

The Burton Group report identifies areas that people in their survey cited as areas where Social Networking could help their enterprises improve:
\n– Better connection between people at remote locations
\n– Breaking down barriers between groups
\n– Centralizing knowledge — what do we know?
\n– Assisting in better collaboration<\/p>\n

As a result of the study, Burton classified social networking benefits into four groups:<\/p>\n

Expertise Location:
\n– Finding who knows what
\n– Finding who knows whom<\/p>\n

Community Building
\n– Sharing best practices amont peers
\n– Building relationships with colleagues<\/p>\n

Recruitment and Retention
\n– Providing professional support
\n– Mentoring among employees
\n– Attracting new hires, tapping into experience of alumni and retirees<\/p>\n

Knowledgebase
\n– Knowledge Mangement
\n– Talent Management<\/p>\n
