Robots are used to automate processes, but a barrier to wider deployment of robots has been the cost. For example, manufacturing robots produced by companies like FANUC and ABB have traditionally been very expensive. But that is changing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Production costs for robots have dropped considerably and a greater variety of robotic software is now available from the cloud. This combination of factors has made the Robotics as a Service (RaaS) model increasingly attractive. A survey by Allied Market Research estimates that the RaaS market will reach $34.7 billion by 2022<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

RaaS is particularly well suited to take on highly repetitive jobs or jobs that are physically demanding or dangerous. Start-up businesses are targeting RaaS market segments that include delivery, cleaning, manufacturing, warehouse control and security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Florian Pestoni<\/a>, co-founder and CEO of InOrbit Inc., said that<\/a> “some industries, such as logistics and retail, are more mature than others, like agriculture and construction, but there\u2019s huge potential to impact society with robotics.”<\/p>\n
