As mentioned on an earlier blog<\/a>, with webMethods purchase of Infravio, BEA’s purchase of Flashline, and HP’s purchase of Mercury and Systinet, only LogicLibrary<\/a> remains as an independent pure-play SOA company.<\/p>\n

IBM has now announced<\/a> that it will begin reselling and providing services for the LogicLibrary product Logidex.\u00a0\u00a0Maybe<\/a> this could be the first step in a potential acquisition of LogicLibrary by IBM?<\/p>\n

Along with that announcement, IBM made a number of other announcements<\/a> last week too.\u00a0They rolled out four new products, 23 enhanced versions of existing software and 11 new service offerings.\u00a0 IBM reiterated their broad company-wide support of SOA.\u00a0 The new SOA-focused software and services is based on IBM’s best practices developed on engagements with 2500 business partners and 3000 SOA customers.<\/p>\n

IBM categorized their SOA announcement into four focus areas: Business Process Management (BPM); tools to expoit SOA benefits; SOA governance; and SOA infrastructure.<\/p>\n

One of the new products introduced last week was based on software from Webify which IBM purchased<\/a> in August.\u00a0 The three other new products were WebSphere Registry and Repository<\/a> (WSRR), the Tivoli Change and Configuration Management Database<\/a>, and the Tivoli Dynamic Workload Broker<\/a>.<\/p>\n

As part of the announcement, IBM also shared results\u00a0of a study commissioned by IBM done by the Institute for Business Value called The Business Value of Service-Oriented Architecture.\u00a0 In that study, 92 percent of IBM SOA customers started SOA to reduce costs, and 51 percent of the customers saw revenue growth because of SOA.<\/p>\n

The SOA portfolio that IBM has put togehter competes most closely with that of Hewlett Packard.\u00a0 In all, it is estimated that IBM is investing $1 Billion this year in research, development and acquisition in the area of SOA.<\/p>\n
