Mention nanotechnology and people think of scientists designing materials, layering one by one to create materials with super properties, like ultra-strength and flexibility. But one benefit of the technology that’s not often mentioned is how nanotechnology can improve cybersecurity.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nanotechnology is being used to improve cybersecurity. One area where that is happening is the development of nanoscale chip technology that will enable quantum computing. Standard chips based on CMOS transistors can currently leak information, but nanoscale enables the creation of non-leaky quantum chips that are much more secure. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nanotechnology is being investigated for creating computers that more closely mimic the human brain and which are able to have better predictive capability. Intelligent systems based on nanotechnology could provide intelligent threat detection capabilities, monitor complex systems like energy and weapons, and have healthcare applications for providing personalized medicine. Intelligent threat detection could quickly identify and isolate security threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nanotechnolgy could also miniature sensors and devices. For example, humans might ingest a pill that contain a microphone and temperature and chemical sensors that could monitor an individual’s health. But, in terms of security, ingested devices could also be used to enable highly secure authentication and encryption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
