2020 has been the kickoff year for 5G technology. Gartner estimates<\/a> that $8.1 billion will have been spent by the end of the year no building out 5G infrastructure. More than 20 percent of wireless infrastructure spending in 2020 will have been for 5G.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Investments in 5G infrastructure have skyrocketed this year. Much of the activity has been accelerated because of remote access requirements by COVID-19. Qualcomm reports that 60 percent of their devices shipped are 5G<\/a> and that they are working with 380 operators that are making 5G investments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kosei Takiishi<\/a>, senior research director at Gartner, said tha<\/a>t “investment in wireless infrastructure continues to gain momentum, as a growing number of CSPs are prioritizing 5G projects by reusing current assets including radio spectrum bandwidths, base stations, core network and transport network, and transitioning LTE\/4G spend to maintenance mode. Early 5G adopters are driving greater competition among CSPs.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cliff Justice<\/a>, principal at KPMG, said that<\/a> “emerging technologies and new ways of working can play a significant role in the transformation to a more digital economy. These technologies are helping companies maintain customer and stakeholder trust, keep remote workforces connected, ensure their business is resilient and prepared for disruptions, and build a strong foundation for future product and service innovation.”<\/p>\n
