Batteries have become sore points with products like electric cars and portable electronics. Batteries still are expensive, bulky and slow to charge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An alternative to batteries that is showing promise is supercapacitors. They tend to be smaller than batteries and can recharge much more quickly and more safely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IdTechX, a market research company, <\/a>predicts that within the next twenty years supercapacitors will overtake batteries like lithium-ion. Electric motors will replace internal combustion engines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Verified Market Research<\/a> estimates the supercapacitor market to be about $1 billion in 2018 and will grow to more than $8 billion by 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Auto analyst Egil Juliussen<\/a>, said that<\/a> “the good news about capacitors is, you can charge them really fast because you just dump the current in there and all of a sudden it\u2019s there. Supercapacitor improvement and market roll-out is now moving fast, and there will be major advances and disruptions coming in the next twenty years.”<\/p>\n
