Cloud computing seems to be the future, yet a severe skills gap in cloud skills may slow adoption. The skills gap is particularly deep in the area of platform expertise, DevOps, cloud architecture and security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

90 percent of organizations now report a lack of skills in cloud computing. IDC reports that 30 percent of high-demand roles<\/a> in emerging technologies will remain unfilled over the next two years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

John Engates, chief technology officer at Rackspace, said that “while the rise of Artificial Intelligence and automation may cause some to think that human insight is less important, our report shows that this is not the case. With technology and the cloud now underpinning business transformation, the growing technology skills gap means organizations must have a strategy to access the expertise needed. Those that don\u2019t will struggle to be competitive and innovative.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Darren Cunningham, VP of Marketing at OpsRamp, said that “enterprise IT leaders would like to make the leap to cloud-native technologies but are struggling to adjust their workforce to transform their digital DNA. Enterprises will need to invest in skill building and retraining programs to equip their internal teams to manage hybrid workloads effectively, given how expensive and difficult it is to hire the right external talent.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An IDC report summarized, saying that <\/a>“what doesn’t change is that the best talent will be attracted to the best IT shops \u2014 those that use cutting edge technology and practices, treat workers well, offer opportunities for learning and advancement, and are part of businesses with solid reputations.”<\/p>\n
