CIOs are on schedule to increase IT spending by 8 percent in 2021, according to Gartner<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Andy Rowsell-Jones<\/a>, research VP at Gartner, said that <\/a>“the support for remote work that the COVID-19 pandemic brought on might be the biggest win for CIOs since Y2K. They have the attention of the CEO, they have convinced senior business leaders of the need to modernize technology, and they have prompted boards of directors to accelerate digital business initiatives.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

John-David Lovelock<\/a>, VP analyst at Gartner, said that<\/a> “the overall effect of this pandemic is going to actually bring the future forward. Spending on the cloud, cloud application development, software as a service, will all be brought forward. Spending we were expecting to see in 2024, we will start to see in 2022 and 2023.” In particular, top-performing companies are setting high priority on digital innovation<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cybersecurity, in particular, will see increased investments this year. Jan-Martin L\u00f6wendahl<\/a>, research VP at Gartner, said that<\/a> “the more you put into the cloud or other external sources, the more you have to invest in cyber security. I would argue that an integral part of any chief information officer role is to guard the data.”<\/p>\n
