Those vehicles that have access to the Internet, typically via a wireless local area network (WLAN), and are able to bi-directionally communicate with both with cloud services and other vehicles. Manufacturers, insurance companies, and others will be able to collect data from the vehicle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In November,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.detroitnews.com\/story\/business\/autos\/general-motors\/2020\/11\/09\/gm-hiring-for-tech-jobs-ev-push\/6220665002\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.detroitnews.com\/story\/business\/autos\/general-motors\/2020\/11\/09\/gm-hiring-for-tech-jobs-ev-push\/6220665002\/\"> GM announced plans <\/a>to hire 3000 engineering, IT, and design employees to help develop connected vehicle capabilities. Since 2018,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbinsights.com\/research\/cybersecurity-for-auto\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.cbinsights.com\/research\/cybersecurity-for-auto\/\"> across the car industry,<\/a> investors have put more than $25 billion into 650 deals related to connected cars and self-driving technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some of the benefits of Connected Vehicles include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Safety.<\/strong> Real time road condition information could help avoid accidents, bad road conditions, traffic and weather.<\/li><li><strong>Efficiency<\/strong>. Identify the most efficient traffic-free route to destination.  Location of fleet vehicles can be tracked. Need for car maintenance can be monitored and scheduled.<\/li><li><strong>Accessibility.<\/strong> Smarter cars give disabled drivers more options and make driving easier<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ihsmarkit.com\/experts\/brinley-stephanie.html\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/ihsmarkit.com\/experts\/brinley-stephanie.html\">Stephanie Brinley<\/a>, principal automotive analyst for IHS Markit,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.detroitnews.com\/story\/business\/autos\/general-motors\/2020\/11\/09\/gm-hiring-for-tech-jobs-ev-push\/6220665002\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.detroitnews.com\/story\/business\/autos\/general-motors\/2020\/11\/09\/gm-hiring-for-tech-jobs-ev-push\/6220665002\/\"> said that<\/a> &#8220;the electric vehicle part of it is important but I think the investment in software as a service is the portion that is meant to enable a new revenue stream for General Motors. Frankly, selling electric vehicles rather than selling internal combustion engines is still selling vehicles. It&#8217;s not a new revenue stream.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"lightsocial_container\"><div class=\"lightsocial_element\"><a class=\"lightsocial_a\"
