quickly, making it competitive with RAM memory, while capable of storing data with very low power requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Phase change materials store data as bits that can change their state when exposed to an energy charge which could be done by heat, electrically or optically. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.electronicspecifier.com\/products\/memory\/memory-chips-could-soon-operate-1-000-times-faster\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.electronicspecifier.com\/products\/memory\/memory-chips-could-soon-operate-1-000-times-faster\"> Researchers at Stanford <\/a>found that PCM materials are able to chane their state within one picosecond after being exposed to the energy charge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/researcher.watson.ibm.com\/researcher\/view.php?person=zurich-HAP\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/researcher.watson.ibm.com\/researcher\/view.php?person=zurich-HAP\">Haris Pozidis<\/a>, researcher at IBM,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.electronicdesign.com\/technologies\/memory\/article\/21801538\/ibm-scientists-mark-new-advances-in-phasechange-memory\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.electronicdesign.com\/technologies\/memory\/article\/21801538\/ibm-scientists-mark-new-advances-in-phasechange-memory\"> said that<\/a> &#8220;phase-change memory is the first instantiation of a universal memory with properties of both DRAM and flash, thus answering one of the grand challenges of our industry.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/profiles.stanford.edu\/aaron-lindenberg\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/profiles.stanford.edu\/aaron-lindenberg\">Aaron Lindenberg<\/a>, an associate professor of materials science and engineering at Stanford,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.electronicspecifier.com\/products\/memory\/memory-chips-could-soon-operate-1-000-times-faster\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.electronicspecifier.com\/products\/memory\/memory-chips-could-soon-operate-1-000-times-faster\"> said that<\/a> &#8220;a thousandfold increase in speed coupled with lower energy use suggests a path toward future memory technologies that could far outperform anything previously demonstrated.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.globenewswire.com\/news-release\/2019\/11\/13\/1946534\/0\/en\/Phase-Change-Memory-Market-To-Reach-USD-46-52-Billion-By-2026-Reports-And-Data.html\" data-type=\"URL\" technology is considered to still be an emerging field<\/a>, predictions are that it could grow as a niche within the total memory market to $46 billion by 2026.<\/p>\n<div
