Edge computing seeks to undo centralization and move computing power back to the location of the data source.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gartner.com\/smarterwithgartner\/what-edge-computing-means-for-infrastructure-and-operations-leaders\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.gartner.com\/smarterwithgartner\/what-edge-computing-means-for-infrastructure-and-operations-leaders\/\">Gartner predicts that by 2025<\/a> three-quarters of enterprise-generated data will be created and processed with edge computing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Advantages of Edge Computing include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Low network latency<\/li><li>Complex processing brought local to the data source<\/li><li>More flexible and capable of supporting artificial intelligence requirements<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In order to bring processing power to the edge, &#8216;data centers in a box&#8217; are an emerging element of edge solutions.  The &#8216;micro data center&#8217; market is expected to grow from $3 billion in 2018 to $15 billion by 2025, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/micro-data-center-market-to-surpass-14-5bn-by-2025-global-market-insights-inc-300851313.html\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/micro-data-center-market-to-surpass-14-5bn-by-2025-global-market-insights-inc-300851313.html\">according to Global Market Insights<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scalecomputing.com\/executive-team\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.scalecomputing.com\/executive-team\">Jeff Ready<\/a>, CEO of Scale Computing, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crn.com\/news\/data-center\/300096141\/life-on-the-edge-why-micro-data-centers-are-the-next-frontier.htm\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.crn.com\/news\/data-center\/300096141\/life-on-the-edge-why-micro-data-centers-are-the-next-frontier.htm\">said that<\/a> &#8220;2010 was the decade of the cloud, but 2020 will be the decade of micro data centers.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/zsmith\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/zsmith\/\">Zac Smith<\/a>, CEO of Packet, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vxchnge.com\/blog\/rise-of-micro-data-centers\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.vxchnge.com\/blog\/rise-of-micro-data-centers\">said that<\/a> &#8220;we see micro data centers as a critical part of what\u2019s next. While micro data centers won\u2019t replace centralized, hyperscale deployments, most of the cloud growth in the coming decade will be driven by smaller footprints that are closer to the network edge. This will include regional sites (e.g. within a metro area) as well as far edge deployments for specific use cases.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A spokesperson from Dell <a href=\"https:\/\/blocksandfiles.com\/2020\/02\/18\/dell-emcs-rack-in-a-box-streaming-data-storage-platform\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/blocksandfiles.com\/2020\/02\/18\/dell-emcs-rack-in-a-box-streaming-data-storage-platform\/\">said that<\/a> &#8220;successful technology leaders are rethinking the placement of applications and infrastructure, distributing them as close to the point of data creation as possible to reduce latency and increase response time.
