When you think ‘Social Media’, Facebook and Twitter immediately probably come to mind.\u00a0 Since the start of 2010 Formtek has begun sending out company Tweets about things we think are interesting or cool in the Enterprise Content Management (ECM), or what I prefer to more generally call the Data Management space.\u00a0 Follow us at @DickAtFormtek.<\/p>\n

Twitter is (or can be) a great communication tool because the messages are tight and to the point.\u00a0 And they happen in real time.\u00a0 Twitter lets people share their moments of ‘eureka’, excitement or disappointment when and as they happen.\u00a0 And a tweet doesn’t require anyone to drop everything to respond to it.<\/p>\n

There’s a huge interest in Twitter.\u00a0 So much so that at the end of 2009 there were 75 million Twitter accounts<\/a> with 6.2 million new accounts being added each month, or 2-3 per second.\u00a0 But it looks like once they’ve signed up for Twitter, a lot of people don’t know what to do with it, or maybe there are just a lot of passive tweet consumers that don’t tweet themselves.<\/p>\n

40 percent of Twitter accounts have never sent out a tweet.\u00a0 80 percent of Twitter users have tweeted fewer than ten times, and in the month of December only 17% of users sent out a tweet.\u00a0 The statistics seem to indicate that if you can stay with Twitter for at least a week that the chances are that you’ll stay on and become a loyal tweeter.<\/p>\n

So, if you’re not active on Twitter.\u00a0 Give it a try… and try to stick with it for at least a week.\u00a0 You might just like it.<\/p>\n
