{"id":10758,"date":"2021-06-09T07:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-06-09T15:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/formtek.com\/blog\/?p=10758"},"modified":"2021-02-22T08:46:45","modified_gmt":"2021-02-22T16:46:45","slug":"6g-the-race-to-terabit-communications","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/formtek.com\/blog\/6g-the-race-to-terabit-communications\/","title":{"rendered":"6G: The Race to Terabit Communications"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/statistics\/792427\/5g-adoption-rate-forecast-in-the-us\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/statistics\/792427\/5g-adoption-rate-forecast-in-the-us\/\">5G technology<\/a> may be just starting to take hold, the conversation about 6G is starting. 6G promises terahertz electronics, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eetimes.eu\/6g-roadmap-challenges-and-opportunities\/?utm_source=newsletter&amp;utm_campaign=link&amp;utm_medium=EETimesWeekInReview-20210220\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.eetimes.eu\/6g-roadmap-challenges-and-opportunities\/?utm_source=newsletter&amp;utm_campaign=link&amp;utm_medium=EETimesWeekInReview-20210220\">research is being done by Finland, Korea, China, Japan, India, and the US<\/a>, although the technology may still be a decade away &#8212; think sometime around 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.idtechex.com\/en\/research-article\/6g-communications-trillion-dollar-opportunity\/23106\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.idtechex.com\/en\/research-article\/6g-communications-trillion-dollar-opportunity\/23106\">Highlights of the goals of 6G technology include:<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Data transmission rates over 100 Gbps, x100 capacity (10x faster than 5G)<\/li><li>Frequency 10x higher than 5G<\/li><li>Will work with edge devices and use no or low power<\/li><li>Very low latency with reponses faster than 1ms<\/li><li>99.999999% accuracy.  Secure, private, safe, resilient<\/li><li>Connectivity of 10 million devices per square km<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/peter-vetter-a72b444\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/peter-vetter-a72b444\/\">Peter Vetter<\/a>, head of access and devices at Nokia Oyj\u2019s research arm Bell Labs, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/features\/2021-02-08\/forget-5g-the-u-s-and-china-are-already-fighting-for-6g-dominance\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/features\/2021-02-08\/forget-5g-the-u-s-and-china-are-already-fighting-for-6g-dominance\">said that<\/a> &#8220;this endeavor is so important that it\u2019s become an arms race to some extent. It will require an army of researchers on it to remain competitive.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/vikrantgandhi\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/vikrantgandhi\/\">Vikrant Gandhi<\/a>, senior industry director of information and communications technologies at consultancy firm Frost &amp; Sullivan in the U.S, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/features\/2021-02-08\/forget-5g-the-u-s-and-china-are-already-fighting-for-6g-dominance\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/features\/2021-02-08\/forget-5g-the-u-s-and-china-are-already-fighting-for-6g-dominance\">said that<\/a> &#8220;unlike 5G, North America will not let the opportunity for a generational leadership slide by so easily this time. It is likely that the competition for 6G leadership will be fiercer than that for 5G.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"lightsocial_container\"><div class=\"lightsocial_element\"><a class=\"lightsocial_a\"
