It means that solr energy primarily supplements traditional energy sources.  Or it means the limitations need to be worked around by building infrastructure like massive batteries to store electricity for use during low production hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some researchers are working on another option that doesn&#8217;t seem possible: the production of solar energy in the dark. One approach investigated by researchers at UNSW is the capture of heat from the earth as infrared light as the earth cools when no longer exposed to the sun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/research.unsw.edu.au\/people\/associate-professor-nj-ekins-daukes\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/research.unsw.edu.au\/people\/associate-professor-nj-ekins-daukes\">Ned Ekins-Daukes<\/a>, associate professor at UNSW, <a href=\"https:\/\/techxplore.com\/news\/2022-05-night-time-solar-technology-power-dark.html\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/techxplore.com\/news\/2022-05-night-time-solar-technology-power-dark.html\">said that<\/a> &#8220;using thermal imaging cameras you can see how much radiation there is at night, but just in the infrared rather than the visible wavelengths. What we have done is make a device that can generate electrical power from the emission of infrared thermal radiation.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A somewhat similar thermo-electric approach is also being investigated at Stanford in a group led by <a href=\"https:\/\/web.stanford.edu\/group\/fan\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/web.stanford.edu\/group\/fan\/\">Shanhui Fan<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/web.stanford.edu\/~sca\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/web.stanford.edu\/~sca\/\">Sid Assawaworrarit<\/a>, a member of the Stanford team,<a href=\"https:\/\/interestingengineering.com\/stanford-solar-panel-night\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/interestingengineering.com\/stanford-solar-panel-night\"> said that<\/a> \u201cduring the day, there&#8217;s a light coming in from the Sun and hitting the solar cell, but during the night, something of a reverse happens. That\u2019s because solar panels \u2014 like everything warmer than absolute zero \u2014 emit infrared radiation. There\u2019s actually light going out from the solar panel, and we use that to generate electricity at night. The photons going out into the night sky actually cool down the solar cell.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"lightsocial_container\"><div class=\"lightsocial_element\"><a class=\"lightsocial_a\"
