{"id":11966,"date":"2023-02-08T07:00:00","date_gmt":"2023-02-08T15:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/formtek.com\/blog\/?p=11966"},"modified":"2022-07-04T10:37:57","modified_gmt":"2022-07-04T18:37:57","slug":"digital-transformation-why-so-many-failures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/formtek.com\/blog\/digital-transformation-why-so-many-failures\/","title":{"rendered":"Digital Transformation: Why So Many Failures?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Digital transformation isn&#8217;t easy.  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibm.com\/blogs\/services\/2019\/05\/22\/why-digital-transformation-succeeds-and-why-it-doesnt\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.ibm.com\/blogs\/services\/2019\/05\/22\/why-digital-transformation-succeeds-and-why-it-doesnt\/\">A survey by IBM<\/a> found that 84 percent of companies rank their attempt to go digital as a failure.  A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bcg.com\/publications\/2020\/increasing-odds-of-success-in-digital-transformation\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.bcg.com\/publications\/2020\/increasing-odds-of-success-in-digital-transformation\">study by Boston Consulting Group<\/a> found that 70 percent of attempts failed.  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mckinsey.com\/business-functions\/people-and-organizational-performance\/our-insights\/unlocking-success-in-digital-transformations\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.mckinsey.com\/business-functions\/people-and-organizational-performance\/our-insights\/unlocking-success-in-digital-transformations\">McKinsey found that<\/a> less than 30 percent of businesses were able to claim success in digital transformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Why is it so hard? <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/forbestechcouncil\/2021\/06\/15\/13-industry-experts-share-reasons-companies-fail-at-digital-transformation\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/forbestechcouncil\/2021\/06\/15\/13-industry-experts-share-reasons-companies-fail-at-digital-transformation\">A team of industry experts was asked that question <\/a>by Forbes Technology Council.  Some of the reasons include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Getting the right data in the right place &#8212; data is often too dispersed across different devices and applications that it&#8217;s hard to bring it all together.<\/li><li>Communication and training are lacking &#8212; users don&#8217;t come up to speed with the tools.<\/li><li>New technology is implemented on top of broken processes<\/li><li>Lack of a culture that can accept transformation and change<\/li><li>Goals not coordinated across teams and an overall lack of commitment<\/li><li>Lack of the right skills and talent.  <\/li><li>Overestimating the benefits and underestimating the costs.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/jason-hayman-37970114\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/jason-hayman-37970114\/\">Jason Hayman<\/a>, market research manager for TEKsystems, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cio.com\/article\/228268\/12-reasons-why-digital-transformations-fail.html\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.cio.com\/article\/228268\/12-reasons-why-digital-transformations-fail.html\">said that<\/a> &#8220;technology is at everyone\u2019s fingertips but realizing how to optimize its potential is complicated. That narrow mindset \u2014 lacking a common vision and failing to consider the entire ecosystem \u2014 is exactly where digital initiatives go wrong.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"lightsocial_container\"><div class=\"lightsocial_element\"><a class=\"lightsocial_a\"
