Automation. Artificial Intelligence. Robotics. Technology is changing our lives and the way that we work. Change is coming quickly and workers need to prepare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Technology can both create and destroy jobs. Overall, what balance between creation and destruction can we expect? And how will technological change affect the patterns of work? This has been an intense debate by economists, especially over the last decade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Economists do agree that workers with specialized skills are expected to do the best in the economy as the workplace changes. But consider the skills of a highly-trained radiologist <\/a>when AI algorithms are now able to do a better job. That’s an example of a specialized skill that has diminished value. Choosing the right skill for success can be tricky. Specialized skills that cannot be easily replicated by automation will win out. But which skills are those?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nilesh Jahagirdar<\/a>, VP of Marketing at [x]cube LABS, told EconomicTimes<\/a> that “while digital technologies such as AI\/ML are making quite a few routine jobs redundant, there are some which can\u2019t quite be replaced owing to the complexities involved and the fact that AI evolution is not just as magical as people think it is. At its current state, it\u2019s only repetitive tasks that follow the same rules over and over which can be done by AI. Psychologists, caregivers, most engineers, human resource managers, marketing strategists, and lawyers are some roles that cannot be replaced by AI anytime in the near future.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A report by McKinsey finds that <\/a>“workers of the future will spend more time on activities that machines are less capable of, such as managing people, applying expertise, and communicating with others. They will spend less time on predictable physical activities and on collecting and processing data, where machines already exceed human performance. The skills and capabilities required will also shift, requiring more social and emotional skills and more advanced cognitive capabilities, such as logical reasoning and creativity… There will be demand for human labor, but workers everywhere will need to rethink traditional notions of where they work, how they work, and what talents and capabilities they bring to that work.”<\/p>\n
