IT modernization is hard. Especially when budgets are tight, most money is diverted to supporting existing applications and services, so allocating monies for new technology becomes risky and often out of reach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stefan Van Der Zijden<\/a>, VP at Gartner, said that<\/a> “for many organizations, legacy systems are seen as holding back the business initiatives and business processes that rely on them. When a tipping point is reached, application leaders must look to application modernization to help remove the obstacles.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Keeping up to date with technology is important and IT leaders realize it across the board. A survey by Asperitas found that<\/a> among 150 IT leaders from mid-sized and larger companies that 100 percent agree that IT and application modernization is important to the success of the business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Modernization doesn’t, for example, necessarily mean replacing apps, but it does imply staying current with updates and ensuring that the business’ current tech stack is streamlined. Many businesses during the work-from-home Covid-19 period introduced tools and apps that enabled remote work, but the quick decisions made during that period also often introduced redundant solutions and IT tools with overlapping capabilities. Modernization also entails optimizing\/streamlining IT tools so that all components in the technology stack work better together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gartner recommends<\/a> that “ultimately, modernizing legacy applications means choosing between rearchitecting, rebuilding or replacing. Rearchitecting has medium costs and risks, whereas rebuilding or replacing provides the best results with higher costs and risks. The key is to weigh all options to help identify the extent to which each will have the desired effect \u2014 with the minimum effort and maximum positive impact.”<\/p>\n
