The report estimates that generative AI could contribute between $2.6 trillion and $4.4 trillion annually to the global economy, which is equivalent to 2 percent to 4 percent of the world’s combined gross domestic product.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The study analyzes various adoption scenarios and evaluates the potential economic value of generative AI in different sectors. It predicts that the high-tech sector would benefit the most, with a potential increase of 4.8 percent to 9.3 percent in its current value. Other industries that could experience substantial growth include banking, education, pharmaceuticals, and telecommunications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The report also highlights the impact of generative AI on different job categories. It suggests that tasks in high-paying jobs such as software engineering and product development are likely to be automated by generative AI. In fact, the technology could automate 50 percent of all work tasks between 2030 and 2060. This prospect has raised concerns among workers, with 24 percent of respondents in a survey expressing worry that AI could make their jobs obsolete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, it’s important to note that previous predictions about job automation have not always been accurate. While concerns about job displacement are valid, the report emphasizes the need to democratize AI technology to ensure that everyone can benefit from its potential economic gains. By supporting workers in learning new skills and managing the transition, generative AI could contribute to increased labor productivity and sustainable economic growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Generative AI has the power to transform industries, boost productivity, and add trillions of dollars to the global economy. While challenges and risks remain, including the displacement of certain job roles, a balanced approach that considers the broader context and addresses the needs of workers is crucial.
