Content Management:  State of the Industry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In May, AIIM released the report called\u00a0<em><a title=\"State of the ECM Industry 2010\" href=\"http:\/\/www.aiim.org\/research\/ECM-State-of-Industry-2010.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">State of the ECM Industry 2010<\/a><\/em>. \u00a0This is the fifth year the annual report has been published, and as usual, it contains a lot of useful information.<\/p>\n<p>The report investigates which benefits are the drivers behind <em>why companies are implementing ECM<\/em> solutions.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The biggest reason for adopting ECM is to improve efficiency and to optimize business processes. \u00a02:1 compared to Compliance.<\/li>\n<li>Compliance comes in second with worries about litigation, financial reporting and financial audits<\/li>\n<li>60% of new adopters also cite &#8216;Content Chaos&#8217; as a driver for implementing ECM<\/li>\n<li>37% are interested in the &#8220;Green IT&#8221; benefits of ECM<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The report also looks at the success that <em>Microsoft Sharepoint <\/em>has had with departmental solutions.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>32% of companies have implemented a SharePoint solution and another 21% are in the process of doing it.<\/li>\n<li>Only 11% of SharePoint users use SharePoint exclusively as their ECM solution. \u00a0Most have other ECM systems.<\/li>\n<li>46% of SharePoint users know they need a plan for how to integrate SharePoint to other systems. \u00a011% don&#8217;t know where to start.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Users are planning on migrating to SaaS solutions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In 18 months the number of companies using SaaS for DM will double from 6% to 12%<\/li>\n<li>In 18 months the number of companies using SaaS for RM will triple from 2% to 6%<\/li>\n<li>In 18 months the number of companies using SaaS for email management will grow from 4% to 6%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Open Source<\/em> offerings, like those from Alfresco and Nuxeo, are becoming popular:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>64% of those responding said that they are considering using Open Source because of cost advantages and ease of use<\/li>\n<li>Today about 6% of ECM and WCM implementations are Open Source. \u00a0In two years that will be closer to 9%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There is an interest in Enterprise 2.0 and Social Media technologies, but there continues to be wariness in implementing it:<\/p>\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\">\n<ul>\n<li>29% of respondents view internal Enterprise 2.0 as significant\u00a0to their organization\u2019s business goals, because of knowledge sharing, team collaboration and project coordination.<\/li>\n<li>45% of companies bar access to Facebook, Twitter, You Tube and Instant Messaging<\/li>\n<li>80% of companies that use Twitter and blogs do not archive the data<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"lightsocial_container\"><div class=\"lightsocial_element\"><a class=\"lightsocial_a\" href=\"http:\/\/digg.com\/submit?url=https%3A%2F%2Fformtek.com%2Fblog%2Fenterprise-content-management-state-of-the-industry%2F&amp;title=\" target=\"_blank\"><img
