Ziff Davis’ CIO | Insight<\/em> have published<\/a>\u00a0what they see as the\u00a0top IT trends for 2007.\u00a0 They put the list together based on the results of 13 separate surveys they conducted in 2006.\u00a0 IT trends were grouped into four categories: strategy<\/a>, management<\/a>, security<\/a>, and technology<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The top trends cited in these four categories are:<\/p>\n

Strategy<\/strong> – Business Process Improvement
\nManagement<\/strong> – Division between IT and Business will blur
\nSecurity<\/strong> – No abatement of IT security threats
\nTechnology<\/strong> – Adoption of new architectures<\/p>\n

Reading though the list of trends, no real surprises jump out, and many of the cited\u00a0trends\u00a0are inter-related.<\/p>\n

Compliance
\n<\/em>\u00a0\u00a0 Security – Compliance achieves what government intended
\nSecurity – Compliance spurs financial process improvement
\nStrategy – Information governance gains momentum<\/p>\n

IT Outsourcing and Offshoring
\n<\/em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Management – Outsourcing changes IT Management
\nManagement – Outsourcing growth slows
\nManagement – Offshoring shifts from India
\nManagement – IT organizations will keep growing<\/p>\n

Strong Business\u00a0and IT Cooperation
\n<\/em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Management – The division between IT and Business will diminish
\nStrategy – IT works on closing the sale
\nManagement – CIOs struggle to find business-savvy technologists<\/p>\n

It is interesting that while Business Process Improvement is is cited as the top trend, another trend competing with that goal is that ‘Business process management services and software will frustrate users’.\u00a0 One step forward.\u00a0 One step back.<\/p>\n
