To close out the year, ZDNet<\/a> and InfoWorld<\/a> both collected thoughts from some of the thought leaders about SOA.
\nHere are some of their findings:<\/p>\n

2007 had many consolidations, mergers and acquisitions.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 RedHat acquired JBoss
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 HP acquired Mercury
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Mercury acquired Systinet
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 IBM acquired FileNet
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Progress and Actional\/Sonic merger
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 BEA \/ Flashline
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 WebMethods \/ Infravio<\/p>\n

– Software and service line are blurring, so any\u00a0acquisition now has an SOA component.
\n– The RedHat\/JBoss merger shows the force of Open Source in SOA.
\n– SOA is an enabler for smaller software companies to specialize and sell into the enterprise
\n– SOA startups in 2006 centered on governance, process management, and security
\n– SOA hasn’t hit it’s stride yet.\u00a0 Expect more mergers and consolidation.
\n– Perhaps there has been too much consolidation and too soon.
\n– Within SOA, Governance was one of the most major topics for 2006.
\n– Despite widespread adoption, many SOA initiatives remain ‘pilots’
\n– SOA and governance issues is forcing business and IT groups to work more closely
\n– ESBs emerged in 2006.\u00a0 Expect a lot more happening with ESBs\u00a0in 2007.
\n– SOA standards stalled in 2006.\u00a0 BPEL upgraded.\u00a0 WS-* went nowhere.
\n– SOA has increased company’s awareness of their processes and IT architecture
\n– Surprise that Microsoft is supporting the concept of SOA.
\n– 2007 may still not see big-bang SOA adoption.\u00a0 SOA is progressing incrementally.
\n– 2007 may be the year for SOA modeling
\n– Rather than customer-wrapped SOA legacy apps, vendor-supplied SOA offerings will become more standard.<\/p>\n
