Enterprises aren’t thinking strategically when it comes to information, according to a Gartner report<\/a>. \u00a0Ted Friedman, vice president of research at Gartner, says that companies need to apply real innovation because times have changed. \u00a0Two big changes have been the dramatic growth in the amount of data being managed and the amount of information generated by an organization that is stored outside the organization’s IT infrastructure. \u00a0“For decades we have seen organizations using the same approaches, causing lack of agility, risk issues and other problems,” said Friedman. \u00a0He went on to say that a problem than many organizations have now is that they don’t view information as a “strategic discipline”.<\/p>\n

“Organisations that focus only on tools and technology, without increasing their information management competency or changing their culture, are unable to fully achieve the benefits of information infrastructure.”<\/p>\n

The key of the Gartner research<\/a> is the identification of four forces that can be harnessed by organizations to help them combat complacency and derive innovation.<\/p>\n
