The AIIM<\/a> ECM Solutions Seminar<\/a>\u00a0was held this past week (April 11, 2006)\u00a0in San Francisco.\u00a0 There was an overflow crowd of 130+ people.\u00a0 Following\u00a0a full day of presentations and demonstrations there was also a brief AIIM chapter meeting\u00a0of the Golden Gate AIIM<\/a> chapter\u00a0led by\u00a0chapter president Bud Porter-Roth<\/a>\u00a0and AIIM Vice President Peggy Winton<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

This AIIM<\/a> seminar was sponsored by\u00a0vendors\u00a0that included\u00a0Microsoft, Oracle, Fujitsu, Canon, Kofax and quite a few others.\u00a0 It was very informative.\u00a0 The main topics discussed throughout the day\u00a0focused on\u00a0Compliance<\/a>, Records Management<\/a> and Distributed Capture.<\/p>\n

Distributed Capture is the scanning of documents at remote sites, linked to a central processing center via the Internet.\u00a0 Using this technology, documents can be brought into\u00a0an Enterprise Content Management<\/a> or similar system immediately at the point of origin.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The\u00a0efficiency and speed made possible by\u00a0using electronic data rather than paper data\u00a0can often shorten workflow processing by days and save thousands of dollars.\u00a0 Traditionally, document scanning and capture was done at a centralized corporate location or by an\u00a0external scan vendor.\u00a0 Decentralization of\u00a0the scan solution allows paper to be captured immediately at the point of origin anywhere in the world.<\/p>\n

Distributed Capture\u00a0has been\u00a0driven by the introduction and affordability of Multi-Function Products (MFPs).\u00a0 MFPs are single-unit space-saving machines that can perform multiple tasks like scanning, copying, and FAXing.\u00a0\u00a0MFPs can plug into and communicate across your network\u00a0with enterprise\u00a0applications.<\/p>\n
