Forrester<\/a> is predicting that 2011 will turn out to be a year of Cloud Computing failure. \u00a0Hype and unrealistic expectations will lead many organizations to jump into the Cloud Computing fray before they are fully prepared, and that will lead to problems. \u00a0Authors of the Forrester report, James Staten and Lauren Nelson, say that most “enterprises aren’t ready for an internal cloud, but we expect that in 2011, I&O [infrastructure and operations] departments will start building them regardless. These efforts will most likely fail, but through this failure will come valuable experience and knowledge about what it really takes to create and operate a cloud environment.”<\/p>\n

Failures present opportunities to learn, and Forrester predicts that the failures in this case will eventually guide the way to future successes. \u00a0In fact, Forrester encourages the experience of possible failures, saying that “from an architectural perspective, the cloud moves I&O away from silo-based architectures to a single pool of resources with two basic levels of priority — a revolutionary concept and new challenge for I&O to manage. Management best practices will come from experience, and the sooner the better. Don’t hold off on getting started just because your infrastructure isn’t there yet.”<\/p>\n

Another trend that Forrester expects to see in Cloud Computing soon is a merger with Big Data<\/a>. \u00a0Forrester is recommending that organizations start to move organizational data into a cloud with analytic tools, and make the cloud resource available across the organization. \u00a0 The advice holds especially true for large organizations. \u00a0Large organizations will have large data sets and bringing the data into the cloud provides a low-cost way to effectively put that data to use.<\/p>\n
