{"id":1975,"date":"2011-03-18T07:00:10","date_gmt":"2011-03-18T15:00:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.formtek.com\/blog\/?p=1975"},"modified":"2011-03-18T07:00:10","modified_gmt":"2011-03-18T15:00:10","slug":"cloud-computing-amazon-aws-accelerates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/formtek.com\/blog\/cloud-computing-amazon-aws-accelerates\/","title":{"rendered":"Cloud Computing:  Amazon AWS Accelerates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Every time you hit a web page on the internet, there is a request-response loop that flows between the request made from your browser to the host server of the site you are hitting which returns a packet of data in a response. \u00a0It&#8217;s a simple model. \u00a0Some statistics from Compuware&#8217;s Gomez web-performance division found that the response you see rendered as a page in your browser is much more complex.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Gomez Data Point\" href=\"http:\/\/www.gomez.com\/compuware-gomez-data-point-the-average-web-user-transaction-involves-over-eight-different-hosts\/\" target=\"_blank\">Gomez <\/a>published what they are calling a <em>Data Point<\/em> fact where they found that the average internet transaction actually involves 8.87 servers. \u00a0That&#8217;s an interesting statistic that points to how interconnected networks and the internet really have become. \u00a0While the browser initiates a request with a single host server, that host server will interact with other servers to create an aggregated response that is sent back to the browser.<\/p>\n<p>What is even more interesting in the data collected by Gomez is the fact that 19 percent of all internet transactions that are made involve access to Amazon&#8217;s Elastic Compute Cloud Service (EC2) to retrieve at least one element of data that is included in the server response. \u00a0That&#8217;s an amazingly high total of total web transactions for Amazon to be involved in.<\/p>\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\"><a title=\"Imad Mouline bio\" href=\"http:\/\/imadmouline.sys-con.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Imad Mouline<\/a>, Chief Technology Officer of Gomez, commented on this statistic saying that &#8220;today\u2019s composite websites are a complex mix of content and services delivered from the data center and from other sources outside your firewall. \u00a0The average web user transaction involves more than eight different third parties or hosts. \u00a0The browser is responsible for assembling all of these components and presenting the user experience.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div>Amazon&#8217;s on-line store is well known the that reputation overshadows the hold and positioning that Amazon has within the Cloud marketplace. \u00a0Amazon&#8217;s Cloud is now virtually (no pun intended) everywhere. \u00a0Amazon&#8217;s EC2 has become the de facto starting point for many startups today. \u00a0AWS makes it very cheap for any company to get started using the cloud, \u00a0and AWS provides users with an easy and flexible ability to scale up or down the number of virtual servers that are used. \u00a0The grip that Amazon has on the public cloud appears to be global.<\/div>\n<div>Not only is Amazon a top choice by US companies for hosting their data, Amazon also has a big presence in places like <a title=\"Amazon EC2 in India\" href=\"http:\/\/www.quora.com\/Startups-in-India\/Are-startups-in-India-using-Amazons-EC2-S3-services-What-are-the-hosting-solutions-like-for-a-fast-reliable-webapp-primarily-meant-for-Indian-users\" target=\"_blank\">India <\/a>and Ireland. Amazon has gone, for example, from almost no presence in Ireland in early 2009 to \u00a0the company hosting the largest number of secure web sites in Ireland. \u00a0Nearly one-third of all Irish secure web sites now use Amazon AWS, based on <a title=\"Amazon AWS\" href=\"http:\/\/www.eweekeurope.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/Amazon-in-Ireland.png\" target=\"_blank\">data from NetCraft<\/a>. \u00a0To push further into Europe, Amazon has recently purchased a huge facility in <a title=\"Dublin Data center\" href=\"http:\/\/www.datacenterknowledge.com\/archives\/2011\/02\/09\/amazon-buys-dublin-site-for-data-center\/\" target=\"_blank\">Dublin <\/a>that it will be converting into a datacenter.<\/div>\n<div class=\"lightsocial_container\"><div class=\"lightsocial_element\"><a class=\"lightsocial_a\" href=\"http:\/\/digg.com\/submit?url=https%3A%2F%2Fformtek.com%2Fblog%2Fcloud-computing-amazon-aws-accelerates%2F&amp;title=\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lightsocial_img\" src=\"https:\/\/formtek.com\/blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/light-social\/digg.png\" alt=\"Digg This\" title=\"Digg This\" \/><\/a><\/div><div class=\"lightsocial_element\"><a class=\"lightsocial_a\"
