Companies\u00a0with Content Management Systems are happy with them.\u00a0 Enterprise Management Associates<\/a>‘s (EMA) January 2007 enterprise content management report found that, when an ECM\u00a0system was in place, 80 percent\u00a0surveyed rated their Enterprise Content Management (ECM) solutions\u00a0as being effective with at worst having a “neutral cost benefit”.<\/p>\n

But the report also found that 82 percent of the small and medium enterprises that they surveyed had no formal system in place at all and still continue to rely heavily, if not exclusively,\u00a0on their network file servers and email folders for storing corporate data.<\/p>\n

And Content Management\u00a0systems in place today still tend to\u00a0focus on management of\u00a0traditional\u00a0documents like images,\u00a0drawings, forms, files\u00a0and videos.\u00a0 Newer online content sources are making management of data all the more challenging.<\/p>\n

The EMA report notes that\u00a0the volume of online content is surpassing traditional content.\u00a0 FAXes, for example,\u00a0are dropping in favor of emails and Instant Messaging.\u00a0 EMA predicts that the level of corporate blogging will more than triple over the next year.<\/p>\n

All of this online content, whether it be blogs, wikis, podcasts, RSS, email, or IM is flowing\u00a0within and outside\u00a0of enterprises today.\u00a0 And consider yesterday’s\u00a0blog entry about\u00a0Enterprise Mashups — how can dynamic content created from mashups using composite services be best captured, stored and archived.\u00a0 The challenge going forward will be to aggregate and search over these newer online types of content.<\/p>\n
