Don’t look now, but an abandoned warehouse near you today may be the operational center of a high-tech data center tomorrow. \u00a0One analyst has dubbed the phenomena DCaaS — Data Centers as a Service. \u00a0Data centers have become modular with easy portability of the components.<\/p>\n

Anthony Wanger<\/a>, the President of I\/O Data Centers, a company specializing in the construction of data centers, boasts <\/a>that “the industrial phase<\/em> of the data center has started. Companies no longer have to deal with real estate or construction costs and delays. i\/o is mass producing the highest quality data centers that can be brought operational in less than 60 days.”<\/p>\n

I\/O Data Centers is in the middle of a project to construct in New Jersey a new mammoth-sized data center that will exceed the size of any data center built by the likes of Google or Microsoft. \u00a0The new modular construction technology is considered to be disruptive, and the over-night construction and location in the heart of the financial data center world in the New Jersey – New York area, for one, is considered to be disruptive. \u00a0The key behind this new technology is I\/O’s modular data center manufacturing facility in Phoenix. \u00a0The facility is able to build modular computing components that can power 18 megawatts of capacity every month. \u00a0The units then are shipped by truck and rail and sent across country.<\/p>\n

Wanger said that “all the previous notions of building a data center no longer apply. We have as much capacity as our customers demand. i\/o is in a forever inventory cycle delivering enterprise-grade, just-in-time data centers. \u00a0If we run out of space, that\u2019s not an issue,\u201d he added. \u201ci\/o New Jersey is located next to an empty building. If and when we run out of space, we can acquire it when we need it just as our customers do with their data centers.”<\/p>\n
