A new standard for cloud storage called the Cloud Data Management Interface (CDMI) is being increasing used by storage vendors in both private and public cloud implementations. \u00a0CDMI was created by the Cloud Storage Initiative (CSI), a group within the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA).<\/p>\n

CDMI was first announced last year <\/a>and since then has received strong acceptance. Since then, there is a fairly long list of other standards bodies that are working in the area of Cloud Computing which have endorsed or adopted CDMI. \u00a0For example, the International Committee for Information Technology Standards <\/a>(INCITS) has created a group within the Distributed Application Platforms & Services (DAPS) that is working with CDMI.<\/p>\n

Other standards bodies working with CDMI include the ITU-T (International Telecommunication Union), TeleManagement Forum, SIENA (the European Standards and Interoperability for eInfrastructure Implementation Initiative), and NIST (the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology).<\/p>\n

The CDMI defines a standard interface for creating, retrieving, updating and deleting data stored in the cloud. \u00a0Data can be stored and accessed from data containers. \u00a0CDMI also includes methods to query cloud storage capabilities.<\/p>\n

A report introduced at the 2011 Storage Networking World conference found <\/a>that<\/p>\n
