Sales of Business Intelligence<\/a> software surged in 2010, passing the $10 billion mark, an increase of 13.4 percent over the previous year, according to a report <\/a>by Gartner<\/a>. \u00a0The growth in 2010 was much stronger than 2009 when frozen budgets caused many strategic projects to be put on hold. \u00a0Gartner bundles into this category\u00a0Business Intelligence platform, analytic applications and performance management software.<\/p>\n

Principal research analyst at Gartner, Dan Sommer<\/a>, said “In 2010, the global resurgence from stimulus packages, general improvement in the macro-economy, and new product releases contributed to a surge in BI software spending. BI spending has far surpassed IT budget growth overall for several years, and it is clear that it continues to be a technology at the center of information-driven initiatives in organisations. Vendors aggressively market their capabilities in this area, meaning revenue growth is as much a function of vendor push as demand pull.”<\/p>\n

The report found that the Business Intelligence analytics market to be dominated by the largest software makers: SAP, Oracle, IBM and Microsoft. \u00a0Altogether, these four “stack” vendors account for 59 percent of the entire BI market.<\/p>\n
