Whether it has been the brutal economy or just complacency, security is slipping in priority for many IT organizations.<\/p>\n

In the past ten years since the 9\/11 attacks struck a chord with businesses and organizations on\u00a0the importance of planning for the event of a disaster, security has slowly dropped as a priority for IT organizations. \u00a0In 2001 68 percent ranked business continuity and disaster recovery as the principle reason for adopting security measures. \u00a0 Today only 43 percent say that disaster preparedness is the major driver for their security efforts, based on a survey by CIO and CSO magazines<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A similar trend has been seen with how organizations are confronting compliance issues. \u00a0In 2007, five years after Sarbanes-Oxley and two years after the enactment of HIPAA, compliance with regulations mandating aspects of security was a main driver for many in pursuing security. \u00a0Today, while still fairly high, the percentage of those saying that compliance is a driving factor in their security efforts has dropped to only 33 percent.<\/p>\n
