For some time Gartner<\/a> has hosted a blog called the High Performance Workplace<\/a>.\u00a0 Gartner has a vision of the worker of the future:\u00a0workers who\u00a0are highly collaborative, creative and innovative.\u00a0 Using todays’ buzz-word terminology, maybe ‘Worker 2.0’ is the term.\u00a0 The idea is that next-generation technologies and business\u00a0processes are driving enormous efficiencies and productivity, and that employees of high-performance-workplace companies can return significant value back to their employers.<\/p>\n

Worker productivity in the US continues to grow<\/a>, but what can sustain the growth?\u00a0 Gartner sees changes within IT as an enabler for the vision<\/a>\u00a0of the High Performance Workplace.\u00a0 Until recently IT has been\u00a0in a\u00a0role that involved primarily cost-cutting and creating efficiencies from automating processes.\u00a0 To continue to provide value, IT needs\u00a0to provide new\u00a0avenues that go beyond just automation, and one way is to focus on improving worker productivity.\u00a0 Investment in the workers and their technology tools can\u00a0become\u00a0a competitive advantage.\u00a0 In the High Performance Workplace, technology goes towards improving worker efficiencies rather than replacing workers with machines.\u00a0<\/p>\n

New technologies like Web 2.0, on-line communities and collaborative tools will gradually decentralize the process of innovation within the enterprise towards individual workers and ultimately enhance business growth.\u00a0 Gartner forecasts that by 2017 80% of the tasks that workers perform will be non-routine, non-manual and collaborative.\u00a0 Simultaneous to decentralization within the enterprise, Gartner also sees enterprises having increasingly more collaborative interactions happening with suppliers, partners and customers.<\/p>\n
