Over the last two years, the number of CIO’s that said that they are ready to begin active use of the cloud has jumped from about 30 percent to now more than 60 percent. \u00a0These CIOs say that using the cloud will help their businesses grow, save them money, and help them gain competitive advantage. \u00a0That’s based on a survey of CIO’s taken by IBM<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Certain market segments seem especially keen on adopting the cloud. \u00a0Interest in the cloud from entertainment and media, automotive and telecommunications are all hovering around 70 percent. \u00a0 And interestingly, CIOs aren’t talking about things like cloud-based email and CRM. \u00a083 percent of those CIOs developing a cloud strategy say that their top priority is to be able to use the cloud for business intelligence and analytics.<\/p>\n

The trend in the acceptance of cloud computing is global with CI’s from the US, Japan, China and South Korea all saying that the cloud has become their top priority.<\/p>\n

In a parallel survey by CDW<\/a>, the results showed that 84 percent of companies have deployed at least one cloud application and 28 percent of companies consider themselves to be\u00a0“cloud users”, although even the “cloud users” are only still spending less than one third of their entire IT budget on cloud computing. \u00a0Cloud users say that a biggest advantage of the cloud when compared to traditional computing\u00a0are in the cost savings. \u00a084 percent of cloud users say that using the cloud is cheaper with savings of about 21 percent over traditional computing.<\/p>\n
