Overload: The Data Management Challenge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Organizations are increasingly finding data management to be one of their major pain points. \u00a0<a title=\"InfoRiskAwareness\" href=\"http:\/\/inforiskawareness.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">InfoRiskAwareness<\/a>, a consortium of companies primarily based in the UK and involved with the problems of data and information management (Open Text and Recommind being two \u00a0of the largest members), released the results of their survey of data management practices in organizations.<\/p>\n<p>The report found that email continues to drain on worker productivity.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>36 percent<\/strong> of organizations say that email overload is their biggest data management problem<\/li>\n<li><strong>28 percent<\/strong> say that document and content management is their biggest issue<\/li>\n<li><strong>15 percent<\/strong> cite information access controls<\/li>\n<li><strong>13 percent<\/strong> point to compliance issues that they must deal with<\/li>\n<li><strong>8 percent<\/strong> say that social media is an area that causes them headaches<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Interestingly, while this is the breakdown where data management problems are perceived, budget allocations and spending are a different matter.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>43 percent<\/strong> of data management budget is being spent on document management, \u00a0content management, and enterprise search<\/li>\n<li><strong>30 percent<\/strong> is spend on regulatory compliance<\/li>\n<li><strong>16 percent<\/strong> is being spent on email<\/li>\n<li><strong>11 percent<\/strong> is spent on social media<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The data management areas where organizations feel that they are most at risk are as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>83 percent<\/strong> worry about fraud and data breaches<\/li>\n<li><strong>46 percent<\/strong> worry about compliance and regulatory investigations<\/li>\n<li><strong>35 percent<\/strong> worry about cloud and hosted data<\/li>\n<li><strong>28 percent<\/strong> worry about social media<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div
