The velocity of SOA adoption is slowing considerably. And the organizations that are implementing SOA are choosing more lightweight technologies than the original
\nvision of SOA.<\/p>\n

For example, use of SOAP protocol is way down. REST services are becoming the preferred path towards SOA implementation. In a recent survey by InformationWeek<\/a> of 270 business professionals, 23 percent of them are in organizations that have deployed SOA. <\/p>\n

New SOA implementations are selecting REST over SOAP. 12 months ago 54 percent of organizations were using SOAP. Today that number is down to 42 percent. REST, on the other hand, is growing from 14 percent to 24 percent. REST is significantly simpler, easier and faster to implement. <\/p>\n

The report notes that some organizations choose to use REST and SOAP side-by-side. REST works exceedingly well for web-apps that need to perform simple database lookups. SOAP is a better choice for applications that have very complex data retrieval operations.<\/p>\n
