{"id":2490,"date":"2011-10-21T07:00:38","date_gmt":"2011-10-21T15:00:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.formtek.com\/blog\/?p=2490"},"modified":"2011-10-21T07:00:38","modified_gmt":"2011-10-21T15:00:38","slug":"collaboration-does-document-sharing-still-trump-other-collaboration-tools","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/formtek.com\/blog\/collaboration-does-document-sharing-still-trump-other-collaboration-tools\/","title":{"rendered":"Collaboration:  Does Document Sharing Still Trump Other Collaboration Tools?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While document sharing and email are collaboration tools that have been around for some time now, these two technologies continue to rank high as enterprise collaboration tools. \u00a0A survey of IT managers in Asi-Pacifica found that document sharing and email trump other collaboration tools like web conferencing, mobile messaging and chat. \u00a0That&#8217;s the result of the <a title=\"Forrsights Strategy Spotlight Collaboration \" href=\"http:\/\/www.forrester.com\/Forrsights\/strategy_spotlight\" target=\"_blank\">Forrsights Strategy Spotlight Collaboration Survey<\/a> released by Forrester Research and <a title=\"ZDNet on collaboration inthe Asia Pacific\" href=\"http:\/\/www.zdnetasia.com\/asia-hails-document-sharing-key-collaboration-tool-62302228.htm\" target=\"_self\">reported by ZDNet<\/a>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>71 percent ranked document sharing highest among all enterprise collaboration technology<\/li>\n<li>68 percent found mobile to be important<\/li>\n<li>58 percent mentioned real-time messaging and chat<\/li>\n<li>53 percent said video conferencing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The report noted that this ordering doesn&#8217;t sync well with how vendors are marketing the features of their collaboration products. \u00a0<a title=\"Michael Barnes bio\" href=\"http:\/\/www.forrester.com\/rb\/analyst\/michael_barnes\" target=\"_blank\">Michael Barnes<\/a>, vice president and principal analyst at Forrester Research, said: &#8220;Overall, it&#8217;s eye opening to see how low video scored across the board. Perhaps, this is an indication that the benefits of Web conferencing in terms of both improved collaboration as well as cost reductions in travel are overhyped.&#8221; \u00a0Barnes suggested that software vendors need to realign their product and marketing better to reflect the needs of customers.<\/p>\n<div class=\"lightsocial_container\"><div class=\"lightsocial_element\"><a
