href=\"http:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/story\/new-ponemon-research-insider-fraud-is-common-and-often-flies-under-corporate-radar-2011-09-22\" target=\"_blank\">A report<\/a> from the <a title=\"Ponemon Institute\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ponemon.org\/index.php\" target=\"_blank\">Ponemon institute<\/a> includes some startling statistics on insider fraud and abuse of IT privileges within organization.<\/p>\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\">\n<ul>\n<li>Three-quarters of organizations suspect that IT users with administrative rights may have altered senstive data<\/li>\n<li>81 percent of organizations say that they know of unprivileged users using the credentials of privileged users to bypass security controls<\/li>\n<li>Organizations average one case of computer-assisted employee-related fraud per week<\/li>\n<li>62 percent of organizations said that they weren&#8217;t able to determine the extent of financial damages caused by fraud<\/li>\n<li>In two-thirds of fraud cases, charges weren&#8217;t brought because it wasn&#8217;t possible to gather sufficient actionable evidence<\/li>\n<li>It takes, on average, about three months to uncover security incidents and another three months to then fully investigate the cause and consequences of the incident<\/li>\n<li>52 percent of organizations don&#8217;t think that they have the technology or the know-how to be able to prevent or quickly detect insider fraud, including employees&#8217; misuse of IT resources<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><a title=\"Larry Ponemon\" href=\"http:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/pub\/larry-ponemon\/21\/909\/504\" target=\"_blank\">Larry Ponemon<\/a>,\u00a0chairman and founder of the Ponemon Institute,\u00a0commented on the findings that &#8220;this data demonstrates that employee actions across an enterprise are not visible. \u00a0While organizations may have policies in place that are meant to curtail insider fraud, what&#8217;s on paper doesn&#8217;t necessarily lead to compliance.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"lightsocial_container\"><div class=\"lightsocial_element\"><a class=\"lightsocial_a\"
