There is a growing consensus that cloud computing will become a major component of It strategies in the future. \u00a0In many cases, it already is a major component, if not a major topic of discussion.<\/p>\n

Deloitte<\/a>: \u00a0“HR in the Cloud: It\u2019s Inevitable.”<\/p>\n

Frank Gens<\/a>, Senior Vice President and Analytst at IDC: \u00a0 “If you are not thinking about and acting on delivering your own offerings through the cloud [within five years], you won’t be in the mainstream anymore. \u00a0Avoiding the cloud won’t really be an option<\/a>.”<\/p>\n

Tim Doscher<\/a>, CTO of Enteracloud, a web hosting provider: \u00a0\u00a0“The cloud has become an expectation<\/a> rather than a novelty in IT today, so it’s not surprising that discussions among top IT pros are taking a new turn, focusing on the type of cloud solution that can be of most benefit to a company, the best ways to deploy a cloud strategy and the kinds of value-added services that can be bundled with that cloud offering.”<\/div>\n

Cloud tops technology trend lists: \u00a0Both\u00a0Gartner<\/a> and\u00a0Forrester<\/a> have it their list of top 10 trends for the coming year. \u00a0Ovum <\/a>has identified Cloud Computing as one of the three main technologies to affect government in 2012.<\/div>\n

What can we expect next for cloud computing? \u00a0David Linthicum<\/a>, CTO and Founder of Blue Mountain Labs and frequent contributor at InfoWorld, offers some ideas about where things are going:<\/p>\n

  1. Cloud computing will become the ‘norm’. \u00a0It will become so commonplace that the word ‘cloud’ is sure to be dropped and assumed when discussing ‘computing’.<\/li>\n
  2. People will better understand the capabilities offered by the cloud and better be able to architect solutions that ‘fit’ the nature of the problem that they are trying to solve.<\/li>\n
  3. ‘Centralized Trust’ or some sort of global authentication that works both in enterprise and on the cloud will become more of a necessity<\/li>\n
  4. Central databases of sharable common data will become commonplace. \u00a0These databases will undoubtedly grow to enormous size. \u00a0They’ll be true cloud-based big-data repositories.<\/li>\n
  5. Mobile devices will become smaller, thinner and more powerful and continue to drive the ability to access data from anywhere.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
