{"id":2648,"date":"2011-12-23T07:00:39","date_gmt":"2011-12-23T15:00:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.formtek.com\/blog\/?p=2648"},"modified":"2011-12-23T07:00:39","modified_gmt":"2011-12-23T15:00:39","slug":"enterprise-software-big-data-and-cloud-drive-growth-in-use-of-data-integration-tools","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/formtek.com\/blog\/enterprise-software-big-data-and-cloud-drive-growth-in-use-of-data-integration-tools\/","title":{"rendered":"Enterprise Software: Big Data and Cloud Drive Growth in Use of Data Integration Tools"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The market for data integration tools grew 20 percent in 2010 to $1.63 billion. \u00a0 And the market is expected to grow another 15% in 2011. \u00a0That&#8217;s according to <a title=\"Gartner's 2011 Data Integration Tools\" href=\"http:\/\/www.gartner.com\/technology\/reprints.do?id=1-17QG4XL&amp;ct=111020&amp;st=sb\" target=\"_blank\">Gartner&#8217;s 2011 report on Data Integration Tools<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Gartner says that &#8220;Data integration capabilities are increasingly relied on to enable &#8216;frictionless&#8217; sharing of data across all organizational and system boundaries, and to support a consistent and complete view of data.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Data integration tools are software components that focus on data access and data delivery infrastructure. \u00a0The market includes data connector and adaptors and software for metadata and data modeling. \u00a0The growth in the data integration tool market segment is due to a number of factors which Gartner refers to as the &#8220;demand trends&#8221; for the industry. \u00a0And two of the biggest demand trend forces are Big Data and the Cloud.<\/p>\n<p>Gartner lists the following areas where data integration technology is particularly useful:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing<\/li>\n<li>Master Data Management<\/li>\n<li>Data Migration and conversion<\/li>\n<li>Synchronization of data between operational Applications<\/li>\n<li>Inter-enterprise data sharing<\/li>\n<li>Services Oriented Architecture (SOA)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a title=\"Ted Friedman\" href=\"http:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/pub\/ted-friedman\/3b\/4a4\/449\" target=\"_blank\">Ted Friedman<\/a>, a Gartner vice president and information management analyst and co-author of the report, <a title=\"Ted Friedman in TechTarget article\" href=\"http:\/\/searchdatamanagement.techtarget.com\/news\/2240110744\/Gartner-Magic-Quadrant-finds-growing-demand-for-data-integration-tools\" target=\"_blank\">said in a TechTarget article <\/a>that\u00a0&#8220;as organizations move more applications to the cloud and leverage more cloud services, there is a need to synchronize that cloud-based data with stuff they&#8217;ve got on premises. \u00a0I would argue that cloud is a driver here as well&#8230; \u00a0Organizations cannot be successful in their data integration work unless they have a very strong focus on data quality built in. \u00a0That&#8217;s because it&#8217;s not only about delivering stuff from here to there. You also have to make sure you&#8217;re delivering the right stuff.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"lightsocial_container\"><div class=\"lightsocial_element\"><a class=\"lightsocial_a\"
