Mobile application development is taking off, within both business and government. \u00a0Two new surveys, one of commercial companies and the other of governments, found strikingly similar results about ongoing efforts to develop mobile applications. \u00a0A survey by BZ Research<\/a> found that 57.1 percent of businesses say that they are developing or have already developed a mobile application. \u00a0Similarly, Foresee<\/a>, a customer experience analytics company, found in an informal poll of their goverment clients that 53 percent of them are in the process of building mobile applications.<\/p>\n

And there is strong interest in being able to build mobile apps by most of the other commercial and government entities even if they are not actively developing mobile software today. \u00a0BZ Research found that only 13.2 percent of businesses have no interest in building a mobile application within the next 18 months. \u00a0Similarly, Foresee f9und that only 15 percent of governments and their agencies which they do business with have no plans for building mobile apps.<\/p>\n

Larry Freed<\/a>, president and CEO of ForeSee, said <\/a>that “Consumers are adopting smartphones and tablets in droves, and these mobile devices are transforming the way people access the Internet. \u00a0Mobile is the next frontier in e-government satisfaction. It is commendable that some federal agencies are budgeting for mobile platform development when they are facing other hurdles–like tighter security requirements and budget cuts–that private-sector companies do not necessarily have to worry about.”<\/p>\n

Nolan Jones<\/a>, vice president of eGovernment innovation at NIC, said that “Regardless of application type, government mobility will continue to grow. \u00a0It\u2019s a great time for mobile, and it\u2019s an exciting time because I think there\u2019s a lot of potential, especially in revolutionizing how government employees perform their functions. \u00a0I think in the next few years, you\u2019re going to see fundamental shifts about how government does its job.\u201d<\/p>\n
