Testing and ensuring the quality of experience (QoE) of a web solution isn’t easy. \u00a0It goes beyond the testing of just the content and feature set of the web application. \u00a0It must also consider load and stress testing, security, performance and up time. \u00a0Cloud infrastructure testing needs to also consider the testing of the physical components involved in delivering the application, like routers, switches and VoIP gateways.<\/p>\n

A report by Frost and Sullivan<\/a> on the Cloud Infrastructure Testing and Cloud-based Application Monitoring Market estimates the size<\/a> of these two markets in 2010 to have been $68.0 million and $168.0 million, respectively, within 2010. The research projected that by 2017 show these markets as growing to $320.2 and $556.2 million, respectively.<\/p>\n

Increasingly load and stress testing of web applications is being assisted by leveraging the elastic capabilities of cloud computing. \u00a0Using the cloud, it’s possible to simulate real-world usage of an application by developing typical user scenarios that can be recorded and played back from virtual servers running in the cloud which can be physically located from all over the world. \u00a0Cloud vendor platforms like those from Amazon.com and Rackspace make this easy to do. \u00a0Cloud service vendors like Advaltis, SOASTA, HP, Load Impact and Keynote go further simplify the test process, automatically collecting the test results from all test servers, and presenting the test results in an easy-to-understand dashboard of aggregated information and statistics.<\/p>\n

Srihari Padmanabhan<\/a>,\u00a0Frost & Sullivan Senior Research Analyst,\u00a0said that\u00a0“Besides testing the cloud infrastructure for security, scalability and performance, enterprises also seek insights into the performance of applications hosted in the cloud environment. \u00a0Service providers, enterprise organizations and network engineers need to understand the root cause of faults in the network by gaining end-to-end visibility across the cloud, giving numerous opportunities for application monitoring as well.”<\/div>\n
