{"id":3167,"date":"2012-08-13T07:00:47","date_gmt":"2012-08-13T15:00:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.formtek.com\/blog\/?p=3167"},"modified":"2012-08-13T07:00:47","modified_gmt":"2012-08-13T15:00:47","slug":"cloud-computing-spending-expected-to-double-over-next-four-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/formtek.com\/blog\/cloud-computing-spending-expected-to-double-over-next-four-years\/","title":{"rendered":"Cloud Computing:  Spending Expected To Double Over Next Four Years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Global IT spending over the next year is expected to be in the range of $3.6 trillion, a three percent increase over the previous year&#8217;s $3.5 trillion. \u00a0That&#8217;s the <a title=\"Gartner Research Forecast\" href=\"http:\/\/my.gartner.com\/portal\/server.pt?open=512&amp;objID=202&amp;mode=2&amp;PageID=5553&amp;ref=webinar-rss&amp;resId=2036215\" target=\"_blank\">forecast from Gartner Research<\/a>. Gartner thinks that spending will remain relatively flat over the near future. \u00a0Despite economic problems in Europe, a weak US recover and China&#8217;s slowing economy, businesses are still spending money on IT, but with a good amount of caution.<\/p>\n<p>The breakdown for where all the IT money was spent in 2011 is as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>$1.63 trillion on <em>Telecom Services<\/em>, a 6 percent increase over 2010<\/li>\n<li>$845 billion on <em>IT Services<\/em>, a 7.7 percent increase over 2010<\/li>\n<li>$404 billion on <em>Computer Hardware<\/em>, a 7.4 percent increase over 2010<\/li>\n<li>$340 billion on<em> Telecom Equipment<\/em>, a 17.5 percent increase over 2010<\/li>\n<li>$269 billion on <em>Enterprise Software<\/em>, a 9.8 percent increase over 2010<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>One notable exception to expected slow pace of IT spending over the next few years is Cloud Computing.<\/p>\n<p>In 2011 Cloud Services came in at $91 billion and that&#8217;s expected to grow to $109 billion in 2012. \u00a0Cloud services are now expected to reach $207 billion by 2016, roughly double the current spending size.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Richard Gordon bio\" href=\"http:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/pub\/richard-gordon\/0\/419\/bb3\" target=\"_blank\">Richard Gordon<\/a>, research vice president at Gartner, said that &#8220;Business process as a service (BPaaS) still accounts for the vast majority of cloud spending by enterprises, but other areas such as Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) and Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) are growing faster.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"lightsocial_container\"><div class=\"lightsocial_element\"><a class=\"lightsocial_a\"
