Global IT spending is on track to exceed $3.7 trillion in 2013, a 3.8 percent increase over this year, and it’s expected to hit $4 trillion in 2015. \u00a0Not too surprisingly, the technologies predicted to drive spend include big data, cloud computing and mobile.<\/p>\n

Gartner also noted that increasingly the money a business spends on technology is not directly being spent by a central IT group but \u00a0rather by individual business units. \u00a0In 2000, IT controlled 80 percent of the budget for technology, but by 2020, IT will control only 10 percent of the total technology budget. \u00a0And as the ‘digitization’ of business components increases, Gartner says that it becomes less and less clear how to separate and label business technology from business process.<\/p>\n

Peter Sondergaard<\/a>, senior vice president of research at Gartner, said that<\/a> “Every budget is an IT budget. \u00a0Technology is embedded in every product.”<\/p>\n

Sondergaard went on to say <\/a>that “By 2015, 4.4 million IT jobs globally will be created to support big data, generating 1.9 million IT jobs in the United States. \u00a0In addition, every big data-related role in the U.S. will create employment for three people outside of IT, so over the next four years a total of 6 million jobs in the U.S. will be generated by the information economy… \u00a0But there is a challenge. There is not enough talent in the industry. Our public and private education systems are failing us. Therefore, only one-third of the IT jobs will be filled. Data experts will be a scarce, valuable commodity. \u00a0IT leaders will need immediate focus on how their organization develops and attracts the skills required. These jobs will be needed to grow your business. These jobs are the future of the new information economy.”<\/p>\n
