href=\"http:\/\/www.gartner.com\/id=2195915\" target=\"_blank\">IT spending on Big Data will grow from $27 billion<\/a> in 2012 to $55 billion in 2016. \u00a0<a title=\"IDC estimate of Big Data spending\" href=\"http:\/\/www.idc.com\/getdoc.jsp?containerId=prUS23355112\" target=\"_blank\">IDC, more conservatively, forecasts that Big Data spending<\/a> will increase from $3.2 billion in 2010 to $16.9 billion in 2015.<\/div>\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\"><a title=\"David Hornik bio\" href=\"http:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/davidhornik\" target=\"_blank\">David Hornik<\/a>, a partner at Venture Capital firm August Capital,<a title=\"David Hornik quote on Venture Capital (VC) and Big Data\" href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/2012\/02\/17\/us-venture-bigdata-idUSTRE81G1HO20120217\" target=\"_blank\"> said that<\/a> VC&#8217;s look for investment themes. \u00a0And the &#8220;The best themes are the ones you can see everywhere, and big data is everywhere you turn.&#8221; \u00a0To meet the demand, Venture Capitalists are out in force supplying funds to budding startups in the Big Data industry.<\/div>\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\">Just a few of the <a title=\"Investments made by VCs\" href=\"http:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2012\/10\/21\/why-vcs-will-continue-to-invest-in-big-data-startups-for-many-years-to-come\/\" target=\"_blank\">investments being made by venture capitalists<\/a> in Big Data include the <a title=\"Techcrunch and VCs\" href=\"http:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2012\/10\/21\/why-vcs-will-continue-to-invest-in-big-data-startups-for-many-years-to-come\/\" target=\"_blank\">following<\/a>:<\/div>\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\">\n<ul>\n<li><a title=\"Big Data for Splice Machine and VC money\" href=\"http:\/\/venturebeat.com\/2012\/10\/17\/big-data-startup-splice-machine-breathes-new-life-into-sql-pulls-in-4m\/\" target=\"_blank\">Splice Machine<\/a> raised $4 million for creating a SQL engine for Big Data<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Bloomreach nets $25 million VC money\" href=\"http:\/\/gigaom.com\/data\/bloomreach-nets-25m-to-turn-big-data-into-marketing-gold\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bloomreach<\/a> raised $25 million to fund new big data applications.<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"RainStor nets $12 million VC capital\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ibtimes.com\/rainstor-big-data-player-gets-extra-12m-venture-capital-investment-799659\" target=\"_blank\">RainStor <\/a>got another $12 million for Big Data storage in the cloud, making total investment $23 million.<\/li>\n<li>Open Source BI player <a title=\"Pentaho nets $23 million VC money\" href=\"http:\/\/www.pentaho.com\/press-room\/releases\/102\/pentaho-secures-23-million-c-round-led-by-nea\/\" target=\"_blank\">Pentaho <\/a>recently received $23 million in funding to focus more specifically on Big Data Analytics<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\">In all, according to<a title=\"Thomson Reuters on VC money spent in 2011\" href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/2012\/02\/17\/us-venture-bigdata-idUSTRE81G1HO20120217\" target=\"_blank\"> Thomson Reuters<\/a>, $2.47 billion was pumped into big data startups in 2011. \u00a0In 2010, the VC investment in Big Data was $1.53 billion\u00a0and in 2009, it was also $1.1 billion.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\">Not too unexpectedly the rate of innovation of Big Data products is picking up.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\">One example is IBM. \u00a0IBM has recently announced their PureData platform, a system that attempts to speed up and optimize analysis of transactional and operational data, along with Big Data analytics.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\">Another example is Pentaho, who recently rolled out two new features in their 4.8 Pentaho Business Analytics product. \u00a0Pentaho Instaview is designed to speed up the discovery and visualization of large data sets housed in Hadoop, MongoDB, Cassandra and HBase. \u00a0Pentaho 4.8 also is also introducing an iPad app they&#8217;re calling &#8216;Mobile BI&#8217; that allows interactive visualization from a tablet.<\/div>\n<div class=\"lightsocial_container\"><div class=\"lightsocial_element\"><a class=\"lightsocial_a\"
