Computing: Which Direction will the Cloud Move in 2013?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At the end of 2012, Forrester Research&#8217;s<a title=\"James Staten bio\" href=\"www.linkedin.com\/in\/jstaten\" target=\"_blank\"> James Staten<\/a> summarized Forrester&#8217;s vision for how they see cloud computing affecting enterprises in 2013. \u00a0The top ten trends for the enterprise cloud include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Understanding of the cloud will lead to <strong>better IT architectural decisions<\/strong>. \u00a0IT finally has a firm grasp on the scenarios which benefit most by applying cloud technologies.<\/li>\n<li>Cloud technology will continue to be <strong>complemented by mobile<\/strong>. \u00a0<a title=\"Glen O'Donnell bio\" href=\"http:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/pub\/glenn-o-donnell\/0\/730\/271\" target=\"_blank\">Glenn O\u2019Donnell, Forrester analyst, <\/a>says that cloud plus mobile is \u201cmore than the sum of its parts.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Non-critical apps in the cloud will mean that <strong>high SLAs become less important<\/strong>. <a title=\"James Staten bio\" href=\"www.linkedin.com\/in\/jstaten\" target=\"_blank\"> James Staten<\/a>, Forrester analyst, <a title=\"James Staten quote on cloud SLA\" href=\"http:\/\/blogs.forrester.com\/james_staten\/12-12-03-2013_cloud_predictions_well_finally_get_real_about_cloud\" target=\"_blank\">wrote that<\/a> &#8220;What\u2019s the value of having your sourcing and vendor management team negotiate a high and tight SLA from the cloud vendor when only 10% of the applications deployed there need that level of protection?&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>IT shops will apply <strong>cost management<\/strong> when deciding when to apply the cloud. \u00a0The cloud isn&#8217;t always the cheapest option. \u00a0IT will learn to better apply ROI calculations to see when to use the cloud and when on-premise or hybrid solutions might be better options.<\/li>\n<li>Organizations will begin to ramp up <strong>cloud-based development efforts<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Disaster and Recovery Backups will increasingly move to the cloud<\/strong> as cloud storage costs continue to decline.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Diversity in the cloud<\/strong>. \u00a0The cloud is a delivery mechanism. \u00a0Cloud solutions are not a commodity. \u00a0The software and hardware used to provide \u00a0cloud solutions can vary dramatically across vendors.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Amazon&#8217;s AWS will see tough competition<\/strong> from Google and Microsoft&#8217;s Azure.<\/li>\n<li>IT shops will come to recognize the <strong>difference between virtualization and the cloud<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Developers will realize that <strong>many of the tools they&#8217;ve previously used remain viable tools<\/strong> for building cloud applications too. \u00a0What&#8217;s different is that cloud applications are more service centric than pre-cloud applications.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"lightsocial_container\"><div class=\"lightsocial_element\"><a class=\"lightsocial_a\"
